Your cozy home away from home.
Sjávarborg is located next to the beautiful harbour in Stykkishólmur. The name Sjávarborg means the palace by the sea.
The basement of Sjávarborg was built 1914 as a storage facility for ice to be delivered to the boats landing fish at the harbour. In 1938 two floors were built above to house a private home and a store. Sjávarborg has since then housed a bookstore, a barber shop and a grocery store to name a few. The hostel opened May 2013.
Sjávarborg offers rooms with shared bathroom and 1 room with private wc inside the room.. The facilities are designed to allow efficient and low-cost service to guests.
Cafè Sjávarborg serves breakfast from May 1st. Until then guests can make their own breakfast in our well equipped kitchen.
Café Sjávarborg offers a great cup of coffee, homemade cakes, soup of the day, wraps and drinks. We offer vegan options.
You can sit down and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with your travelling companions or meet locals.
Don’t worry – we have a small selection of books that you can take with you if you leave one behind. Check it out it’s the basement next to the dining room.
Staying at Sjávarborg guests enjoy the perfect location next to the harbour with the activites there. The view from the guesthouse is great over Stykkishólmur harbour and Breiðafjörður. Restaurants are in neighboring houses. A great geothermal swimming pool is only in five minutes walking distance.
Hlökkum til að sjá þig, looking forward to your visit.
The hostel was one of the nicest ones we’ve been to in Iceland. We had a double room overlooking the beautiful natural harbour of Stykkisholmur. The whole place is very clean and stylish. Breakfast was great, in the café nextdoor. Highly recommended
The hostel overlooks the beautiful harbour in the middle of town. We had a double room on the top floor with fantastic views over the harbour. Room was huge, clean and was the only one with an end suite. The rest of the hostel is very stylishly decorated. The kitchen and showers are on the lowest floor (which also overlook the harbour). The kitchen is very well equipped (albeit with an old oven, as noted by others!), with a good communal eating area which opens out onto the harbour. We cooked here two nights and enjoyed meeting other travellers! Overall we really loved the harbour hostel.
